Ohio 24-Hour New Driver (Adult 21+) Course

*Drive to Succeed Scholarship*

Drive to Succeed is a grant program that provides scholarships to new drivers 15 ½ to 20 with a financial need. Scholarship applications are managed by four (4) regional ESCs throughout the state.


Applicants must be 15 ½ to 20 years old, must not have started or previously completed Driver Training, must have a valid Ohio permit, must be eligible for one of the following programs: SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, and Summer EBT/SunBucks.


If the applicant is under age 18, the parent or guardian must complete a Parent Orientation course.


If you reside in Butler County you will apply at Fairfield County Educational Service Center.

  • TeenDriving.com will provide you with information on everything from getting your license to buying a car 
  • MADD will inform you about drunk driving and underage drinking prevention  
  • The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety studies and publishes insurance loss data with the goal of reducing the losses from crashes on the nation's roads 
  • Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles will provide you with further information on how to schedule you driver's license test and register your car
  • *Temporary Permits issued after Sept. 30, 2025 for individuals under 21 and/or non-renewable, non-transferable driver license applicants, will be required to submit BMV Form 5791 which includes logging of practice hours. The RoadReady Ohio app helps track those hours and includes the option to create and print the completed form with the required logged hours. Once notarized, the form can then be brought into the BMV when applying for a driver license
